“Inside Out 2” Is Disney Studio’s Biggest Animated Trailer Launch
Are you anxious for the new film’s release? Even if you aren’t, Riley’s new collection of emotions will surely wreck havoc this time around.
Just when we thought we had controlled our anxiety, Pixar released its first trailer for Inside Out 2, and alongside it, debut Anxiety.
No, not the emotion (well, she technically manifests anxiety). Played by Maya Hawke, the next feeling that joins the original group of emotions is Anxiety.
According to Disney, the trailer for the animated sequel about personified feelings gathered a whoppin’ 157 million views in 24 hours. Inside Out 2 unseated the previous record holder, 2019’s Frozen 2. According to Deadline, the Frozen 2 trailer generated 116.4 million views during its first 24 hours online. Of those 157 million views Inside Out 2 garnered, 78 million came from TikTok.
“We are thrilled so many people have tuned in to check out the new trailer for ‘Inside Out 2,’” said Pete Docter, chief creative officer of Pixar. “When the first film came out, we knew that by telling a story where we could see our emotions — those little voices inside your head — there would be so much more to explore than we could possibly fit into one film.”
Docter, helmer of the first Inside Out in 2015, went on to praise sequel director Kelsey Mann, saying he and the team “have done such a great job with ‘Inside Out 2,’ expanding the world and introducing new emotions that we’re very anxious for audiences to discover.” Did you see what he did there? Anxious? No? Nevermind.
He also appended: “We couldn’t be more grateful to see the kind of response the trailer has received so far. Thank you to all who have checked it out — we can’t wait for everyone to see the film when it comes to theaters next summer.”
Inside Out 2 picks up with a now teenage protagonist Riley who is organizing her new, complicated feelings. Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith and Lewis Black return as Joy, Sadness and Anger, while Tony Hale and Liza Lapira take over for Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling as Fear and Disgust after reported salary disputes (ironic since they are fear and disgust). Hawke joins as the frazzled, new emotion Anxiety.
In the new Inside Out 2 poster that was released prior to the trailer, we can see 3 more emotions under the ground. They seem to be Ennui, Embarrassment, and Envy. Yikes Riley! We can only say one thing at this point, Welcome to the club.
