Because the movie managed to acclimate to such success, rumours about a sequel quickly followed. Now, 24 years later, the directors have officially announced that they have been working on a sequel for quite some time. Fans will get to see Gladiator 2 in November 2024. Gladiator 2 cast will have some pretty big names, so let’s look at all the actors and their roles in Gladiator 2.

Paul Mescal

Paul Mescal, an Oscar nominee who is known and critically acclaimed for his roles in films like Lost Daughter and Aftersun, will play the leading role of Lucius Verus, son of Lucilla (played by Connie Nielsen), the lover of Russell Crowe’s character, Maximus Decimus Meridius, in the original film. Lucius will probably follow in Maximus’s footsteps and carry on his legacy.

Connie Nielsen

Connie Nielsen will return as Lucilla. In the first movie, she played Lucilla, the sister of the villainous Commodus and former lover of the hero, Maximus. Connie is considered a phenomenal actress globally recognized for her roles in movies like Wonder Woman and Gladiator 2000.

Derek Jacobi

Derek Jacobi will be replaying his role from the original Gladiator as Senator Gracchus. In the original movie, Senator Gracchus’s character was a loyal senator who supported Maximus and Lucilla and opposed the tyrannical rule of Commodus, so it’s expected that this time, he will do the same by supporting Maximus’ son Lucius Verus and will play a crucial part in the story. Derek Jacobi is a critically acclaimed actor who recently appeared in projects like Good Omens and The Sandman.

Joseph Quinn

Stranger Things actor Joseph Quinn is set to portray Emperor Caracalla, a real Roman emperor known for being a brutal ruler. His character in this movie is expected to be similar to real life and play the role of a significant antagonist or a complex character with conflicting motives.

American actor Fred Hechinger will play Emperor Geta, whose character is inspired by the real-life Roman ruler Geta.
