The 65-year-old actor was first charged a year ago before the case was dropped in April 2023. Now, a New Mexico grand jury has indicted Baldwin on an involuntary manslaughter charge regarding the fatal 2021 shooting of cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, on the set of the film Rust.

Baldwin was indicted after special prosecutors Kari T. Morrissey and Jason J. Lewis brought the case before a Santa Fe grand jury a few days earlier, according to the Associated Press.

Baldwin’s defense attorneys, Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro, told the Associated Press, “We look forward to our day in court.”

The original case that was put against the actor in January of the previous year also accused him of manslaughter as the actor pleaded not guilty to the charges he faced. Morrissey and Lewis dropped the charges three months later, saying that “new facts were revealed that demand further investigation and forensic analysis.” They, however, did mention that they had by no means absolved Alec Baldwin of the crime and that they may refile the charges later.

Hutchins was killed and Souza was wounded on the Rust set on Oct. 21, 2021, when a gun being held by Baldwin discharged. Baldwin had been told that the gun was ‘cold’ and had stressed the fact that he never pulled the trigger.

The case has reopened, in light of apparent evidence that the prop gun’s trigger “had to be pulled or depressed sufficiently to release the fully cocked or retracted hammer of the evidence revolver,” according to the New York Times.

Along with Baldwin, the film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, also pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter charges, with her trial set to begin the following week.

An initial tweet from Baldwin addressing the incident in 2021 can be seen below.

Last May, Baldwin commemorated wrapping production on Rust in an Instagram post. The Western film, which takes place in the late 1800s, also stars Jensen Ackles and Travis Kimmel.
