John Cena plans to retire from WWE by 2027

January 24, 2024

John Cena has revealed he plans to retire from WWE before age 50, admitting that “it takes its toll more and more” every time he steps in the ring, in a recent interview.

Cena, who was once The Face Who Runs The Place in WWE for a good decade, is now a part-time wrestler. The Peacemaker star, who made his in-ring debut for WWE in 2002, recently told Entertainment Tonight that he’s set to retire within a few years, reasserting this by saying, “That’s not a maybe. That time is gonna come, and it’s gonna come soon.”

John Cena said, “I made a promise to the consumer early on, to WWE fans, ’cause I know how tough it is to be a fan. You gotta come out of pocket — and WWE has a ton of content — it takes a lot to be a passionate fan, and our fanbase is passionate and global. I never wanted to go out there just for the sake of going out there.

“I’m gonna be 47 this year. I feel great. So inside I feel great, but I know what it takes to be a WWE performer night in and night out, and I don’t ever wanna just go out there and do it to do it,” he further added. “I wanna have the passion — the same passion as the fanbase — and I wanna give them exactly what they give me. The miles on the speedometer say, ‘Hey, that’s gotta be done before 50.'”

The WWE Superstar, who has the record for the most wishes granted for Make-A-Wish foundation, will be celebrating his 47th birthday this April, giving us about a 3-year window within which he will most likely retire. A whole generation of wrestling fans were defined by John Cena and the day he retires from wrestling, will be a sad day for wrestling fans all over the globe.
